Boiling hot or Freezing Cold, those are your option in an English bathroom

The first time I went to the bathroom here in the UK, there was one thing different. One tap for hot water and one tap for cold water. I thought “what if I want warm water?” I need to wash my hands, but every time you go to the bathroom you have the following choices: You can burn your hands with boiling water, you can wash them with freezing water or the third last option would be to mixed the water in the sink… :-S.
Since the first time, I keep asking myself why English people do not have mixed taps? Is it more expensive? Maybe they have never seen a mixed tap before! And don’t know how efficient mixed taps can be. That is not true! They know what mixed tap are!! they have mixed tap in the kitchen but not in the bathroom! Why? I have been in the UK for around 2 months and I am still wandering… I am not the only one who wonders, there is a facebook group called You are not an advanced country if you have separate water taps. They stay, that when Winston S. Churchill visited Moscow (Stalin) in 1942, he was astonished by the advanced technology used in the bathrooms (mixed taps being present everywhere.) that he later wrote, “mingle [the water] to exactly the temperature one desires”. Now 2010, nothing has changed
.
A few weeks ago, I visited a friend’s house and for my surprise, they have mixed taps in their bathroom. (It is a new house). So I came to the conclusion that English people just like to be different (they drive in the other side of the road!!) even if that means burning your hands every day
