Getting an used bike
filed in Country on Apr.19, 2010
Oxford is a bike friendly city. I have never visited a city like that before, because in Panama just the thought of biking on the street where all the crazy people are (Panamanian drivers are well-known for their lack of following-rules if you know what I mean) it is very scary. It is for a reason our public buses are call Red Devils.
Next fall I will be a full-time student again, this time in a UK University located in Oxford (not the Oxford University thought) I am looking for a used bike that can take me to class every day. Everybody has a bike here or at least that is the impression I am getting after living here for 3 months. Since the streets are made for biking, I am thinking of trying it too, perhaps I should start bike around town instant of taking the bus. Even thought I like Oxford public transportation I am also ‘green’ and biking is better for the environment don’t you think?
Last week I started looking for used bikes on the daily info with no success. I want to spend only 50 pound on the bike, because I need to buy a helmet too and if the bike does not includes a lock I will need one. I guess better get one around 50 pounds with a lock include; most of the ads say, “Locks included”. I send an e-mail last week to inquire about a cheap bike the responses I got was “the bike is gone, sorry”. I click one of the commercial in the daily info website and end at http://www.backontrax.co.uk/ . The prices are a little bit higher than in the daily info but in the other hand, they will deliver the bike right to you (if you are located within Oxford and spend more than 20 pound, of course).
I am somewhat excited about getting a bike; I was 12 years old the last time I own a bike, which I sold for a GameBoy Color. I hope to find a bike in good conditions and under my budget.
