St George day, though the eyes of a Panamanian

In Panama, we celebrate on N
ovember 4th the Flag Day. Many people have that day off but it’s not a national day, in other words if you have to work that day your hourly rate is not going to be double, for example, November 3th which is a national day where Panama celebrates the separation from Colombia (or Independence… depending on your definition of the word).
Today I saw many houses with the England flag (a red cross on a white background) outside, boyfriend told me it is because today April 23 is St George day and the England flag was St George emblem.
St George is the patron saint of England. In Panama, each province and small villages have different patron but I am not aware of one for the whole country.
There are small parades on the Sunday before St George day especially High Street, some churches might have special services but in general, it is a regular working day. Different from Panama where we have parades in two of the main road in Panama City and besides that, each province also has its own parades even small villages have parades. Governmental institution have November 4 off and other public institution. Many people have that day off because of the parades though.
Did you know William Shakespeare was born on April 23 1564 and die on the same day, 1616?
