A few weeks ago, my dog started eating bees. We think she started eating bees because of a bad experience with them, perhaps one bee bite her. That could be a good reason to started eating bees.

My dog is an English Cooker Spaniel; she is 9 years old and only eats dog food (she used to only eat dog food…). Her name is Sandy.

I live in the countryside, with many trees and bad cell phone reception. One of the pleasures of living in the countryside is, the different insects that come to visit every day; for example the bees.

The bees are trying to move in with us by making their houses in the windows, doorframes and any place they you can think of. We try to keep them under control by putting water with soap inside the new houses they start to build. However, they keep coming. They usually fly inside the house looking for a spot to make their house, until Sandy catches them.

We get visited from others insects as well, but Sandy doesn’t pay too much attention to them as she does to the bees. At the moment I was writing this entry, a cienpies came inside the house and Sandy only smelled the cienpies and did nothing. I guess she thought, “Hmm, you don’t smell like a bee, you’re welcome here”. Sometimes she plays with the insects until they stop playing with her (if you know what I mean)… but she doesn’t eat them after, which she does after playing with bees.

I looked on-line for information and it seems to be normal for pets (cats and dogs) to eat insects, it is actually an instinct.

The other day, on the news they were saying that an organization is considering putting insects in the daily human diet because it is cheaper than taking care of cows or pigs.

I guess my dog started putting insects in her diet already!
