Biking for the first time in Oxford

Two weeks ago, I bought a used bike for only 45 pounds. It is a girly bike (it is not pink though) with six gears and the frame is big enough for my height. I am 5’10.

The town looks different from a bike perspective and I think many people would agree with me. It is not the same to look at the town through the bus window than to do it while cycling. Even if you take the same road the bus takes to get to town. For instance, you would never know there is a hill at the beginning of Morrell Avenue (coming from town and taking bus #15) unless you bike, because when you are inside the bus, the hill is not big enough for the passenger to notice it. In Panama, we celebrate on NEngland Flagovember 4th the Flag Day. Many people have that day off but it’s not a national day, in other words if you have to work that day your hourly rate is not going to be double, for example, November 3th which is a national day where Panama celebrates the separation from Colombia (or Independence… depending on your definition of the word).

Today I saw many houses with the England flag (a red cross on a white background) outside, boyfriend told me it is because today April 23 is St George day and the England flag was St George emblem. Read the rest of this entry »

cars are coming from your left

Panama is one of many countries around the world where driving right is the rule. I am guessing we all know England is one of the few countries that drive left. I remember the first time I crossed the street here in England, I was almost run over because I was looking to the wrong side of the road even thought I knew before hand that England drives in the other side of the street. After that incident, before crossing the street now, I look everywhere (right, left, front and back). Read the rest of this entry »
